Supporting Business Award
UCAAN Introduces Annual UCAAN Supporting Business Award Winner
January 27th, 2021., Moorpark, CA. UCAAN, United Cancer Advocacy Action Network announces NEW Annual Award and first winning business. Rachel Shur, UCAAN’s founder & Executive Director felt it was important to recognize a local business that reached out and supported the grassroots organization during an nontraditional 2020 holiday season. The cancer organization usually offers their annual holiday gift wrapping service at the Oaks shopping center, but due to the pandemic, they were unable to.
That’s when long time business owner and friend of Rachel Shur reached out an olive branch of hope and offered her store location for the pop-up holiday gift wrap store. Linda Coburn of Pedego 101 Electric Bikes in Westlake Village opened her heart, her time and her store for the non-profit and their patrons and offered a fantastic and accessible location for the community that supports the organization. Linda was innovative and brought in business associates, friends and family to volunteer and wrap gifts, all socially distanced and with masks on. Many of UCAAN’s supporters were thankful for the pop-up location and that Coburn was supporting the local cause. Linda’s support brought in $1,155 for UCAAN. During a pandemic, we call that an exceptional WIN!
“There are many philanthropic people and businesses in our community, and we find that those that embrace the mission & vision of UCAAN, will go above and beyond to do all they can to help us help the cancer patients and families we serve locally and nationwide. We want to show our appreciation in a BIG Way!” Says Shur, a two-time survivor of rare terminal cancer.
Shur decided a thank you wasn’t enough for Linda’s philanthropic and supportive spirit, she wanted to show her how much she meant to Shur & UCAAN. The creation of the NEW award was inspired by Linda’s generous support. UCAAN hopes to give the award every year to feature people & businesses in the community that go above and beyond the call of duty to help the local organization.
“The 2020 UCAAN Supporting Business Award goes to Linda Coburn of Pedego 101 Electric Bikes in Westlake Village. Thank you, Linda for your continued support for UCAAN and for helping us by hosting a pop-up Holiday gift wrapping location. We cannot thank you enough for all you’ve done for us!” Shur proudly announced.
